TABLE I.  Performance and dimensional requirements.

3.1  Frame.  The machine frame shall be an iron or steel casting which shall suffer no permanent distortion from the forces created by normal operation at maximum capacity.

3.2  Stand.  Unless otherwise specified (see 7.5 (c)), the machine shall be provided with a clamp- on offset stand for bench mounting.  The stand shall be mounted and shaped so its offset will bring the machine forward for ease of operation.

3.3  Gears.  All gears shall be totally enclosed or guarded to protect the operator.

3.4  Rolls.  The machine shall be furnished with an adjustable rolling press which will flatten sheet metal up to the maximum thickness specified in table I.  The thickness capacity of the rolls shall be adjustable through a quick-acting crankscrew.  The hardness of the rolls shall be from 52 to 62 on the Rockwell "C" scale when tested in accordance with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standard E18, "Standard Test Methods for Rockwell Hardness and Rockwell Superficial Hardness of Metallic Materials".  When specified in the acquisition order (see 7.5 (d)), spare replacement rolls shall be furnished.

4.  REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS

4.1  Recovered materials.  The offeror or contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).

5.  QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS

5.1  Product conformance.  The machines provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this commercial item description; conform to the producer's own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices; and be the same product which the supplier offers for sale on the commercial market.  The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance.
